Calling All Inventors!!!! If you have a great idea and need Pro Bono (free) help with filing your patent application, then you don’t want to miss this event to see if you qualify. Come join the Chicago Inventors Organization to learn more about a program to provide pro bono legal services to low-income, independent inventors.

Guest speakers James Patterson, Managing Partner of Patterson Thuente IP, Phil Cole, President of Lommen, Abdo, Cole, King & Stageberg, P.A. and Chaz De La Garza are working with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) to help spark innovation and new businesses in Illinois and across the nation.  James Patterson states that “Since cost is the biggest hurdle for independent inventors, a project like this allows people with good ideas to overcome at least one of the financial roadblocks to bringing a new innovation to market.”

Jim Patterson has more than 30 years of experience in intellectual property law, particularly in the electrical and mechanical arts. Prior to establishing Patterson Thuente IP, Jim was a partner at a large, international law firm in Minneapolis. Jim has trial experience in state and federal courts and has served as an expert witness in U.S. and European cases. He also enjoys working with inventors and the challenge of patenting ideas that are twists on everyday products. He is also serving as convener of the AIA Pro Bono Task Force, which is overseeing the nationwide rollout of patent law pro bono programs.

Phil Cole has extensive litigation experience in handling commercial disputes, intellectual property litigation, business torts, class actions and the defense of all types of claims brought against lawyers. Mr. Cole is a frequent lecturer and is a published author in the areas of trial strategies and professional liability subjects. Mr. Cole was selected as the Minneapolis Best Lawyers Legal Malpractice Lawyer of the Year for 2011.Chaz De La Garza is an AV Preeminent rated trial lawyer who has tried, to verdict many IP cases of all types, including patent trademark, trade dress, copyright, trade secret, and IP license disputes. Chaz has counseled clients on pre-litigation strategy; mock trials including mediation and arbitration. He has over 30 years of IP experience, a BS in Chemical Engineering and 5 years experience as a Chemical Engineer.
