“Demystifying the Patenting Process” Saturday, May 12, 2012 Chase Bank Come join the Chicago Black Inventors (CBI) as Jeff Gaffin of the US Patent & Trademark Office’s Ombudsman Pilot Program will discuss the overall patenting process (what examiners do, etc). as well as copyrights, trademarks and trade secrets. The Ombudsman Pilot Program serves as a resource for patent applicants, agents and attorneys. This is a presentation you will not want to miss given the Patent Reform Act changes which will be implemented in the near future. Jeff Gaffin started his career at the USPTO in 1985. He graduated from Boston University in 1984 with a BS in Electrical Engineering. He was an Examiner in Art Unit 214, Electrical System and Devices and Electrical Transmission or Interconnection Systems for over 10 years before becoming a Supervisory Examiner in Group 210, now TC 2800. He transferred to TC 2100 in 2001 and has supervised in the areas of I/O Data Processing, Database and File Management, and Artificial Intelligence. He has also served as a Group Manager and acting Group Director, amongst other special projects, including developing a supervisory mentoring program for the Patent High Performance Team, new Examiner Hiring, and TC 2100’s Ombudsmen. Throughout his career, Jeff has received numerous awards including the Department of Commerce Bronze Medal and Exceptional Career Award for examination and supervisory accomplishments.
